Purpose of my life?

Dear unassuming reader,

Today I write to you with some caution, a topic I have long pondered in my head. A question that lingers and has possibly haunted generations before me and will haunt generations to come.

” What is my purpose in life? “

Do I need to have an interesting pinboard steering me to the direction that makes me the most useful to everyone around me, academically and socially? Or should I accept the reality that the day a human is born, we are slowly but surely moving towards oblivion. There will be a day and an hour where no-one would know me and I would cease to exist. The most nihilistic point of view, so does it matter how my life ends up?

Well, long answer short, I have come to the understanding that Purpose is not a unidirectional goal or motive that needs to be accomplished.

It’s in one's everyday actions, how one make others feel, how one influences his/her surroundings, how one goes about choosing to do the things he/she wants to do irrespective of how the society around them perceives it.

That being said, that would simply mean one also never really fulfills their purpose until their last breath. It’s an ongoing, conscious way of living. Sounds really difficult to read it but it is what it is.

Now, you could really be the smartest person in the room, but there’s always going to be someone more smarter. You could be beautiful to look at but there’s always going to be someone else who’s better looking. You could be the richest person in your neighbourhood but there’s always someone richer in the city. So can you satisfy your purpose by fixing your position in the materialistic pyramid of brains, beauty and money?

The conclusion I have come to is Absolutely not. If you spend your life living, prioritising this pyramid, you are caught in the vicious cycle of consumerism and wanting more. None of these above things can quench you. It’s an impractical race to run.

but you know what you might just remember and cherish? The time you spent caring and loving those around you. Could be your parents, neighbours or friends. Could be you helped someone cross the street, could be you passed a smile to an acquaintance, could be you offered a listening ear to someone you needed to vent

That is where the true purpose of life is found. In simply being available in the most truest of forms.

I’d like to end this mini rant with a quote that I firmly stand by Pablo Picasso.

The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.

As you can see, he emphasises on the value of sharing your light, your gift with others. Makes it worth living.

~~thankyou dear reader, hope reading this adds some perspective into your purpose in life.
